Three years ago I decided to share my life with Tom. My two dogs, Max and Bella, were already part of my household before Tom came into the picture. These dogs were more than alone pets; they were like family to me. I was confident that Tom understood and respected this bond, given his previous interactions with them and the love he seemed to show. But when an unexpected two-week work trip presented itself and I left Tom to care for Max and Bella, cracks began to appear in my perception of our relationship.

Moment

As I left them, I felt a pang of fear, but Tom’s reassuring words that he would take good care of them temporarily reassured me.

However, this reassurance was quickly undermined when an unexpected message from me moeder, who lived close to us, reached me.

She inquired worriedly about Max and Bella, whom she had seen tied up on the porch.
