Jane had always thought she knew her husband, Patrick, inside and out. Their wedding was based on openness and winning. But lately everything felt different. Patrick, who used to be casual with his phone, now seemed obsessed with the device. He kept his phone like a precious secret and spent hours in his study, ostensibly working, but often mumbling into his phone.

Jane noticed that their conversations became more superficial.

Previously they would talk for hours about whatever was on their mind, but now they seemed to hardly have anything to say to each other.
